THE CASTLE OF PORTO DE MÓS
According to historical records, we know that Knight D. Fuas Roupinho, the first commander in Porto de Mós, set out from this castle to fight against the Moors.
It’s during the reign of King Sancho I that this castle took the form of a dwelling, and remained so until the reign of King Dinis. It was the latter who ordered to build the wall around the settlement and gave the castle some palatial features. Later, in the 15thcentury, the Count of Ourém turned it into a palace.
King Afonso started the refurbishment work to restore the castle in the second half of the same century.
